Private house - Malta
Located on the northern side of Duhok city, this modern family home is designed to blend into its natural surroundings. The steep terrain of the site has been utilized to create strong connections between indoor and outdoor environments.
The family wanted a contemporary yet homely house, adapted for their four children. On the ground floor, social spaces flow around the garden, while the upper floor houses private suites with abundant daylight and views of the greenery. The parent and child areas are distinct but connected, gathered around the kitchen, living room and dining area – all with direct contact with the garden. Large windows reinforce the proximity to nature and create a harmonious balance between openness and privacy.
Flexibility in design allows for adaptation to the changing needs of the family, supporting children’s independence while promoting togetherness. Two entrances – a formal one for guests and a practical family entrance – contribute to smooth functionality. Material choices such as limestone, granite, glass, oak, plaster and marble give the home a warm, durable and timeless aesthetic.
